Salvador Domingo Felipe Jacinto Dalí i Domènech, widely known as Salvador Dalí, was a Spanish surrealist artist celebrated for his exceptional technical skills, meticulous draftsmanship, and the captivating and bizarre imagery in his creations.
Dalí’s artistic pursuits spanned various mediums, including painting, sculpture, film, graphic arts, animation, fashion, and photography. He frequently collaborated with other artists and explored writing, producing fiction, poetry, autobiographies, essays, and critical analyses. Central themes in his work revolved around dreams, the subconscious, sexuality, religion, science, and his personal relationships. Despite his esteemed artistic contributions, Dalí’s eccentric and ostentatious public behavior often overshadowed his artwork. His support for the Francoist regime, commercial ventures, and the quality and authenticity of some of his later works have also sparked controversy. Dalí’s life and artistic legacy have had a profound impact on other Surrealists, pop art, popular culture, and contemporary artists like Jeff Koons and Damien Hirst.
