Jean-Luc Godard

Beginning as a fierce film critic for Cahiers du Cinéma, Godard became one of the most influential directors in cinematic history. Breathless was his feature debut and immediately established him as the radical spearhead of the Nouvelle Vague (French New Wave).
Godard’s work is characterized by the deconstruction of traditional Hollywood narrative structures, Marxist political ideology, existentialist themes, and reflexive filmmaking that constantly reminds the audience they are watching a movie.
