Biography
Born 31 JUL 1944
Geraldine Chaplin, an American actress, is the daughter of Charlie Chaplin and Oona O’Neill. After beginnings in dance and modeling, she pursued acting and made her English-language debut in David Lean’s Doctor Zhivago (1965), earning a Golden Globe nomination.
She debuted on Broadway in Lillian Hellman’s The Little Foxes (1967) and portrayed Queen Nefertiti in Raúl Araiza’s Nefertiti and Akhenaton (1973). Chaplin received Golden Globe nominations for Robert Altman’s Nashville (1975) and Welcome to L. A. (1976), and a BAFTA nomination for her role in Chaplin (1992).
She starred in critically acclaimed Spanish and French films, including Les Uns et les Autres (1981), Life Is a Bed of Roses (1983), and Jacques Rivette’s Noroît (1976) and Love on the Ground (1984).
She was the partner of director Carlos Saura for 12 years, starring in Ana and the Wolves (1973), Cría Cuervos (1976), Elisa, vida mía (1977), and Mamá cumple cien años (1979). She won a Goya Award for En la ciudad sin límites (2002) and was nominated for The Orphanage (2007). Her contributions to Spanish cinema earned her the Gold Medal from the Spanish Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences in 2006.
