Ухарь купец (Ukhar Kupets), or in English, "The Dashing Merchant," is a short silent drama film that was produced by the Moscow division of the renowned French film company Pathé Frères. The film is considered to be a landmark in the history of cinema, as it was one of the earliest colored films ever created, with each individual frame of the film being meticulously hand-painted. The story follows the titular character, a charismatic merchant, as he navigates the complex and dangerous world of commerce in late 19th-century Russia.
